– This pattern is written in US terms
– This pattern involves colour changing. You may use your preferred method to switch colours as long as the stitch count remains the same.
– Beginning chain of round does not count as a stitch
– 5mm hook
– 4mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Various colours of Bernat Handicrafter cotton yarn or other cotton yarn of the same weight.
– SS (slip stitch)
– CH (chain)
– SC (single crochet)
– DC (double crochet)
Using your 5mm hook and the first colour of yarn, start with a magic circle. Alternately, you may chain 3 and ss into the beginning chain to form a loop.
Ch 2. Place 8 dc into the loop you just created. SS into beginning dc. Pull tail of loop to tighten. (8) [change colours]
Ch 2. Place 2 dc into each stitch around. Ss into beginning dc. (16) [change colours]
Ch 2. Place 2 dc into the first stitch. Place 1 dc into the next stitch. Repeat alternating pattern all the way around. Ss into beginning dc. (24) [change colours]
Ch. 1. Complete 1 sc into each stitch around. Ss into beginning sc. (24) [change colours after each round]
Ch. 1. Complete 1 sc into each stitch around. Ss into beginning sc (24). Fasten off and weave in all ends. This completes the pouch portion of the pattern. At this point, I recommend weaving in your ends with a yarn needle before adding the drawstring.
To Create Drawstring:
Switch to your 4mm hook and one colour of yarn. With a fairly tight tension, chain 80 and cut from skein leaving a tail to allow easy tying of knot at the end of chain. Weave the chain you just created into the 3rd row from the top, in between any of the sc stitches. Weave in and out of every 3 sc until you are back at the beginning. Even out the chain so both sides are equal. Tie a knot on each end of the drawstring, right at the ends of your chain. Cut tails and your drawstring is complete.
You should now be able to gently pull both ends of the chain to close the pouch and tie in a knot.
This pouch is a quick and easy project. Use it for in your bag for storing small items like lip balm, hair elastics, earbuds or candies. Also an option for gift giving, small childrens toys, game pieces, etc. It can be easily customizable for holiday purposes as well! Black/orange for Halloween, blue/white for winter, red/green/white for Christmas.
