Small projects can be a great way to practice and learn new stitches. They can also be a wonderful opportunity to try new brands and weights of yarn before committing to use them in larger projects. If you haven’t worked with fingering weight yarn before, this would be a great introduction.

Today I’m going to show you how to crochet a simple and small bookmark using Scheepjes Catona yarn and the suzette stitch.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Beginning CH 1 does not count as a stitch
– Suzette stitch tutorial is included

Materials Needed:
– Approximately 20-21 yards of weight 1 (fingering/super fine) yarn. I used Scheepjes Catona
– 3.5mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Scissors

Stitches:
SS – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorials:
Suzette Stitch: One single crochet and double crochet are placed into the same stitch. Skip the next stitch. Repeat. After the last skipped stitch of the row, place 1 SC.

Pattern:
Begin by chaining 10

Row 1:
Into the second CH from your hook and into each CH across, place 1 SC.
CH 1 and turn.

(9 SC stitches)

Row 2: (suzette stitch)
Into the first stitch place 1 SC and 1 DC. Skip the next stitch.
*Into the next stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC. Skip the next stitch.*
Repeat from * to * across the row until there are 2 stitches remaining.
Skip the next stitch, place 1 SC into the last stitch.
CH 1 and turn.

(5 SC, 4 DC stitches = 9 stitches)

Repeat Row 2 as many times as you would like to create the preferred length for your bookmark. The bookmarks in the photo have 25 rows of the suzette stitch.

Edging:
Working into the same space as the last SC from your final row, place two more SC stitches. This will create a corner curve around to the next edge. Evenly place 1 SC around all edges working 3 SC stitches into each corner stitch space. SS into the beginning SC, fasten off and weave in ends.
