How cute are these little bows? Originally published in October 2019, I have updated this design with better photos and added a few extra details in the notes and instructions. It had previously been shared as a Halloween style bow, but I have adjusted the focus to be an accessory that can be used anytime of the year!
Don’t worry, it’s still free here on my blog with the .PDF version available in my Etsy and Ravelry shops. Learn how to make your own crochet bow below…

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Finished bow measures approximately 5 inches x 3 inches
– Turning CH does not count as a stitch
– There are no special stitches required for this pattern
– While this pattern is written using worsted weight yarn, please feel free to get creative with exploring with different yarn weights to create smaller/larger bows
– Helpful photos can be found on the last page for optional printing
Materials Needed:
– Approximately 12-13 yards of worsted weight yarn (cotton or acrylic). I used Bernat Handicrafter
– 4mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
Pattern:
CH 9 and begin row one in the second CH from your hook.
Rows 1-15:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC. CH 1 and turn.
(8 SC stitches)
Row 16:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC. Fasten off and weave in
ends.
(8 SC stitches)
If you do not want to add edging, please skip ahead to the bunching section.
Edging:
Join yarn into any stitch with a SS and CH 1 (does not count as a stitch). Evenly place 1 SC around all edges, placing 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC into each corner space. When you reach the start of your edging, SS into the beginning SC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Bunching:
Cut a piece of yarn that is approximately the 30 inches long and thread through your yarn needle. In the middle of the rectangle, pinch the top and bottom together insert your needle from the bottom up through the top, grabbing all the layers bunched together [photo A]. Begin wrapping your cut piece of yarn around 8-10 times. Tighten and tie the ends together at the back of the bow [photo B].
Use your yarn needle to weave the ends underneath the wrapped yarn and trim ends.
Ideas for Use:
Attach to hair elastics, hair clips, hair bands (simply wrap your cut yarn around it while bunching). Bow can also be stitched into corners of blankets, onto hats, bags, scarves, etc. Whatever colours you choose, this cute bow will make a great accessory for Halloween, holidays and related sport spirit days.
