The even moss stitch is great if you’re looking for some fun texture and in a project. Using only slip stitches and half double crochet, it’s wonderful to use in so many different patterns. Today I’m sharing a really simple bookmark design that uses this stitch throughout. If the even moss stitch is new to you, don’t worry! There’s a tutorial included!

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– The finished bookmark measures approximately 6 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Turning CH 1 does not count as a stitch throughout
– This project can be customized in length by continuing the row repeat
Materials Needed:
– Approximately 17 yards of DK weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Coboo in the “Tan” colourway. Buy the yarn for this project at WeCrochet or Lion Brand Yarn.
– 3mm hook (I used my WeCrochet Dots hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors (these are my favourite)
– Measuring tape (a retractable one is handy)
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
HDC – Half Double Crochet
Special Stitch Tutorial:
Even Moss Stitch – In the first stitch, place 1 SS. Make 1 HDC into the next stitch. Repeat this alternating stitch sequence across the row, always starting and ending with SS.
Detailed Tutorial: Click here
Pattern:
CH 10 and begin row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Rows 1-40:
In the first stitch, *place 1 SS followed by 1 HDC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Into the last stitch, place 1 SS. CH 1.
(5 SS, 4 HDC = 9 stitches)
Row 41:
In the first stitch, *place 1 SS followed by 1 HDC in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Into the last stitch, place 1 SS and fasten off.
(5 SS, 4 HDC = 9 stitches)
