Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Basket measures approximately 5 inches in diameter and 3 inches tall
– Beginning CH 1 or 2 does not count as a stitch
– Special stitch tutorial is included within the pattern

Materials Needed:
– 81-82 yards of Bernat Home Dec yarn (weight 5 bulky)
– 5mm hook (I used my Furls Streamline Swirl Galaxy Andromeda hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– 1 Stitch Marker

Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorials:
Back Loop Of DC: The loop furthest from you at the top of the stitch. The part that makes up the back half of the “V” at the top of the stitch.

Working Into The 3rd Loop of HDC: The loop furthest from you at the back of the HDC stitch (inside the basket). It is underneath the traditional “V” at the top of the stitch.

Pattern:
Begin with a magic circle OR CH 3 and SS into beginning chain to form ring. CH 2.

Round 1:
10 DC into the ring. SS into the top of the beginning DC. CH 2.
(10 DC Stitches)

Round 2:
Place 2 DC into each stitch around. SS into the first DC of the round. CH 2
(20 DC Stitches)

Round 3:
Place 2 DC into each stitch around. SS into the first DC of the round. CH 2.
(40 DC Stitches)

Round 4:
Place 1 DC into the back loop of each DC. SS into the first DC of the round. CH 1.
(40 DC Stitches)

Round 5:
Place 1 HDC into each stitch around. SS into the first HDC. CH 2.
(40 HDC Stitches)

Round 6:
Place 1 DC into the 3rd loop of each HDC from the previous round. SS into the first DC of the round. CH 1.
(40 DC Stitches)

Rounds 7-8:
Repeat rounds 5 and 6

Rounds 9-10:
Repeat rounds 5 and 6. Place 1 stitch marker into any HDC of round 9 to mark where you will fold for shaping. CH 2 after round 10.

Rounds 11-13:
Place 1 DC into each stitch around. SS into the first DC of the round. CH 2. After round 13, fasten off and weave in ends.
(40 DC Stitches)

Shaping The Basket:
Fold the top of your basket down at round 9 where your stitch marker is. Round 13 should be at the bottom touching the inside base of the basket. Smooth out your edges and shape if needed.

Your basket is complete! Some ideas for use are:
– Bedside basket (lip balm, hair elastics, hair clips)
– Bathroom counter (dental floss, small container of hand lotion, tissues, face scrubbies, small make up containers or sponges)
– Storage for small toys or small toy accessories
– Holiday treats and goodies
– Crochet items like small scissors, yarn needles, stitch markets, tape measure, etc.
– Desk organization (paper clips, push pins, small memo pads)
