It’s not a secret that I love the suzette stitch. It’s becoming somewhat of a personal challenge to see how many items I can make using this beautiful stitch. It creates a solid and textured appearance which makes it appealing for so many different uses.

Today’s pattern is practical, works up in less than an hour and is a great stash buster project. The Suzette Crochet Hook Pouch is perfect for storing a hook or two to keep in your current W.I.P basket or to toss into a crochet travel bag when you’re on the go. The sizing allows for a variety of hook lengths so you can give your hook a nice, cozy home.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms.
– Gauge (2 ¼ inches x 2 ¼ inches = 5 rows of 7 stitches using the suzette stitch)
– Turning chain does not count as a stitch.
– Special stitch tutorial for the suzette stitch is included below.

Materials Needed:
–  Approximately 41 yards of worsted weight yarn (I used Loops and Threads Impeccable)
– 5mm hook (I used my Furls Streamline Ebony hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring Tape
– One 16mm button
– Needle and thread appropriate for sewing on the button

Stitches:
SK – Skip next stitch
SS – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorials:
Suzette Stitch – One single crochet and double crochet are placed into the same stitch. Skip the next stitch. Repeat. After the last skipped stitch of the row, place 1 SC.

Pattern:

Begin by chaining 8.

Row 1:
Into the second CH from your hook, place 1 SC. Continue by placing 1 SC into each CH stitch until the end of the row. CH 1 and turn.

(7 SC stitches)

Row 2:
Into the first stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC.
SK the next stitch.
Into the next stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC
SK the next stitch.
Into the next stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC.
SK the next stitch.
Place 1 SC into the last stitch. CH 1 and turn.

(3 DC stitches, 4 SC =7 stitches)

Row 3-40:
Repeat row 2

Row 41:
Into each of the first 3 stitches, place 1 SC.
CH 3 and SK the next stitch (this will be the button hole)
Into each of the remaining 3 stitches, place 1 SC. CH 1 and turn.

(6 SC stitches, 3 CH)

Row 42:
Into the first 3 stitches, place 1 SC.
Into the CH 3 space, make 1 SC.
Into each of the remaining 3 stitches, place 1 SC.
(7 SC stitches)

Do not turn your work or fasten off. The rectangle should measure approximately 15 inches long and 2 ¼ inches wide.

Edging:
Into the same stitch as the last SC, place 2 more SC.  This will create a corner curve around to the next edge. Evenly place 1 SC around all edges working 3 SC stitches into each corner stitch space. Once you have returned to the beginning of your edging, SS into the 2nd SC of your first corner. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Seaming:
Outside Seam- Flip your work over so that the wrong side (back) of the SC edging is facing you. With the button hole at the top, fold the bottom up so the pouch portion measures 6 ½ inches in length (from bottom to the pouch opening at the base of the flap). Seam your side edges using the method of your choice (I like using an invisible seam). Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Inside Seam – Turn your work so that the right side (front) of the SC edging is facing you. With the button hole at the top, fold the bottom up so the pouch portion measures 6 ½ inches in length (from bottom to the pouch opening at the base of the flap). Seam your edges using the method of your choice (I like using an invisible seam). Fasten off and weave in your ends. Flip the pouch so that it is right side out.

Button:
Sew the button in the appropriate spot that lines up with the button hole when the flap is folded over.
