The lemon peel stitch is such a pretty and simple crochet stitch that alternates between single and double crochet. It’s very beginner friendly and creates beautiful projects. I used a thinner weight yarn to make a quick and easy bookmark, and I’d love to share it with you! Find the free pattern below…

Pattern:
CH 9
Row 1:
Into the first stitch, place 1 SC. In the 2nd stitch, place 1 DC. In the next stitch place 1 SC and place 1 DC in the following stitch. Repeat from * to * 2 more times. CH 1 and turn.
(4 SC stitches, 4 DC stitches = 8 stitches)
Rows 2-25:
Repeat row 1
(4 SC stitches, 4 DC stitches = 8 stitches)
Edging:
Into the first stitch 7 stitches, place 1 SC. In the last stitch, place 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC to create a curve to the next side. Evenly place 1 SC along the length of edge. Into the first stitch of the bottom (short side), place 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC. Make 1 SC into each of the next 6 stitches. In the last stitch, make 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC. Evenly place 1 SC along the length of edge. Place 1 SC into the same stitch as the first SC, CH 2 and SS into the beginning SC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Tip: For the long sides of the bookmark, there isn’t a particular space for working your edging since you are crocheting into the sides of the stitches from each row. Simply place your SC stitches into spots that create a neat and even distance.
