Say hello to the Colourway Cowl! This pattern was originally published in August 2019 and was only available on Ravelry. The yarn used as been discontinued so I’ve re-written it using a different brand and made a few tweaks to make it flow a bit better. I’ve also updated the .PDF and made it available for free here on my website.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– The finished cowl measures approximately 11 ½ x 6 ½ inches (after seaming)
– Gauge is: Rows 1-3 = 2 inches in height, 24 inches wide
– This cowl is made in rows and seamed at the end
– This cowl has a fitted appearance but does have some flexibility and stretch
– Beginning CH 2 counts as 1 DC throughout
– After row 2, the last DC of each row will get worked into the 2nd CH of the previous row’s beginning CH 2
– When starting each row, place 1 stitch marker into the 2nd CH to mark where to place the final stitch of the next row
Materials Needed:
– Bulky weight #5 yarn in 4 colours. I used WeCrochet Brava (approx. 40 yards for colour A “Orange”, 30 yards for colour B “Rouge”, 30 yards for colour C “Canary” and 30 yards for colour D “Cornflower”)
– 6mm hook (I used my Furls Streamline Wood hook)
– Yarn needle (this one is great for bulky yarn)
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
– Stitch markers
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SK – Skip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC – Back Post Double Crochet
Special Stitch Tutorials:
Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) – Yarn over, insert your hook from the front of the row between stitch posts. Work your hook behind the post of next stitch and back out the other side of the post (towards you). Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook. Yarn over, pull through last 2 remaining loops on hook.
Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC) – Yarn over, insert your hook from the back of the row between stitch posts. Work around the front of the post, returning to the back of the row. Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook. Yarn over, pull through last 2 remaining loops on hook.

(33 DC stitches, 32 FPDC stitches = 65 stitches)
Row 3:
CH 2 (represents 1 DC) and place 1 BPDC in the next stitch. *Place 1 DC into the next stitch and 1 BPDC in the following stitch.* Repeat from * to * 30 more times. Into the last stitch, make 1 DC. Fasten off and turn your work.
(33 DC stitches, 32 BPDC stitches = 65 stitches)

Row 5:
Repeat row 3 but do not fasten off. Turn your work.
Row 6:
Repeat row 2. Fasten off and turn.
Row 7:
Join yarn colour C with a SS into the first stitch of the row. Repeat row 3 but do not fasten off. Turn your work.
Row 8:
Repeat row 2
Row 9:
Repeat row 3
Row 10:

Row 11:
Repeat row 3 but do not fasten off. Turn your work.
Row 12:
Repeat row 2. Fasten off leaving a long tail, approximately 30 inches.
Seaming:
Lay the cowl flat with the textured posts facing up. Bring the two short ends together and begin your seam by weaving in and out of the sides of the stitches (Photo B) all the way down. If you weave into the strands that are facing up, the seaming yarn won’t be too visible in the front of contrasing colours. Fasten off, weave in all ends and flip the cowl so the textured posts are now facing out.
