This fun and relaxing design uses one cake of Lion Brand Mandala yarn and your favourite 5mm crochet hook. Wear it as a long, cozy scarf or stitch the ends together if an infinity scarf is more your style!

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is rows 1-4 = 2 inches tall and 7 inches wide
– Turning CH in the cluster rows counts as a stitch
– Turning CH in SC rows and HDC rows does not count as a stitch
– Special stitch tutorial is included within the pattern
– It might seem like your stitch count is off between the solid rows and the cluster rows. Due to the nature of the cluster stitches, this section has less stitches than the SC and HDC rows. When transitioning from the cluster rows, we need to add in one extra SC stitch to return to the original stitch count of 25 (row 7 when 2 SC are placed into the first stitch)
– Completed size measures approximately 94 inches long and 7 inches wide
– The finished scarf can sometimes appear uneven between the alternating sections. Blocking is recommended to achieve straighter edges
– If an infinity scarf is more your style, simply join the two ends together using your favourite seaming method!
Materials Needed:
– One cake of Lion Brand Mandala (approximately 570 yards required) This yarn is the original line and DK weight. Buy the yarn for this pattern here
– 5mm hook Check out these great hook option: Furls Streamline, WeCrochet Dots, WeCrochet Radiant
– Measuring tape
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SK – Skip next stitch
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Special Stitch Tutorial:
Clusters – A “cluster” refers to the block of “3 DC” stitches that are grouped together.
Pattern:
Begin by chaining 26. Start row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Row 1:
Into each stitch across, place 1 SC.
(25 SC)
Row 2:

CH 3 and turn (counts as 1 DC, CH 1). SK two stitches and *place 3 DC into the next stitch. CH 1 and SK the next two stitches*. Repeat across the row from * to * until there are 3 stitches left. SK two stitches and place 1 DC into the last stitch.
(2 DC stitches [ends], 7 DC clusters, 8 CH 1 spaces)
Row 3:
CH 2 and turn (counts as 1 DC). Place 2 DC into the first CH space. CH 1 and SK the next cluster. *Place 3 DC in the next CH space, CH 1 and SK the next cluster*. Repeat across the row from * to * until there is one CH space left. Make 3 DC into the final CH space.
(8 DC clusters, 7 CH 1 spaces)
Row 4:
CH 3 and turn (counts as 1 DC, CH 1). SK the next cluster. *Place 3 DC in the next CH space, CH 1 and SK the next cluster*. Repeat across the row from * to * until there is one cluster left. Skip over the next 2 DC of the cluster and place 1 DC into the 2nd CH stitch of the turning CH from row 3.
(2 DC stitches [ends], 7 DC clusters, 8 CH 1 spaces)
Row 5:
Repeat row 3
Row 6:
Repeat row 4
Row 7:
CH 1 (does not count as a stitch). Into the first CH space place 2 SC. Place 1 SC into each of the next 3 DC stitches. *SK the next CH space and place 1 SC into each of the next 3 DC stitches. * Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. In the last CH space, place 2 SC.
(25 SC stitches)
Rows 8-11:
CH 1 (does not count as a stitch). Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 HDC. After row 11, CH 1 and turn before the row 1 repeat.
(25 HDC stitches)
(You will now be working the remainder of the scarf in row repeats)
Repeat rows 1-11:
17 more times = 198 rows total from row 1.
(18 DC cluster sections, 18 solid sections made of SC and HDC)
Rows: 199-205:
Repeat rows 1-7
(Last row should be SC)
After completing row 205, fasten off and weave in ends. Your extra-long and extra cozy One Skein Granny Rows Scarf is complete! Would it be possible to use the entire ball of yarn? I want to include all the colors but I don’t want to mess up the pattern.
Hi Erin! You could definitely use the entire cake of Mandala but you might find there won’t be enough to complete the last segment. I couldn’t use the last little bit of my cake because it was only enough for the last HDC section and not enough for the final granny portion. If you aren’t overly worried about the ends matching, you could crochet the repeat to wherever you run out of yarn.

Hi there! just starting this project with a trial run of the mandala yarn to practice the pattern before I start my yarn color of choice. I notice that my colorway change does not seems to be a clean of a change as your example, in other words the end of one color goes over into part of the next row of color change. Is this right? Groovy pattern though….
Hello! I just let my colour transitions happen wherever they landed. There are a few sections in my version of the scarf where a some stitches in the granny clusters have different shades from a colour change.
This is one of my favorite scarfs I have made to date! I gifted two for Christmas, and am making myself one now in another kind of yarn. I just started, and I’m excited lol! It’s super simple and has great drape, and looks so lovely! Thank you for sharing your pattern! ❤️

I was just looking for something to use my extra cake of yarn left over from a shawl I made my daughter! I can’t wait to try your pattern! Hi Laurie! Please try extending the chain to one of these to achieve some extra width (starting row 1 in the 2nd CH and following the pattern as usual): CH 35 or CH 41

Hello, I would like to know if i can use another yarn weight (4) instead of (3) and still have the same results?

Hi Stacey! Appearance wise, the stitches would look the same but because weight 4 yarn is slightly thicker than weight 3, your length and width most likely will be increased. I would recommend working up the gauge swatch in the pattern notes using the yarn you’d like to work with. It will give you a good visual of how the scarf would look with your preferred yarn. I’ve been working up a scarf with this pattern in 4 yarn (rustic romantic from yarn bee to be exact) and ended up shortening it a bit to make it not quite as wide. my foundation chain was 19, so my rows were 18. One I changed that it matched gauge pretty well. Loving this pattern by the way! It’s great to do while sitting and watching TV

Hi ? I’m just asking some advice on the hook size.. I’m in the UK, very new to crochet only done a couple of small projects mainly using granny squares. Is the hook size a standard 5mm uk hook, or do I need to convert it from us size to uk? If I do, what size do I need? Total rookie, lol.
