I’ve got a cute and quick crochet pattern for you today! Not only is it a stash buster, using approximately 14 yards of yarn, but it’s such a fun way to dress up your mason jars. If you use mason jars to gift baked treats, this would be an adorable way to add an extra handmade vibe. I used this mason jar as a decorative focus for fall and used this pattern to create a simple, rustic appearance. If you wanted, you could even attach things like cinnamon sticks, lavender or bells to suit a specific holiday or season. There are a ton of ways to get creative with this project.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– The finished accent without ties measures approximately 1 x 10 ½ inches
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– This decorative accent will fit a mason jar that is approximately 12 inches in diameter at the widest part
– Turning CH 1 does not count as a stitch throughout
– Turning CH 3 counts as 1 DC, CH 1
– To increase or decrease the length, simply CH any even number of stitches Please keep in mind this will adjust the yardage required
– To add a seasonal feel, you might also choose to add extra items into your final bow (ex: cinnamon sticks, fresh cut lavender, bells, etc). For safety reasons, please keep this mason jar accent away from small children and open flames
Materials Needed:
– Approximately 14 yards of worsted weight yarn. I used WeCrochet/Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in the “Pampas Heather” colourway
– 4mm hook (I used the hook from the WeCrochet Dots set)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SK – Skip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Pattern:
CH 54 and begin row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Row 1:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC.
(53 SC stitches)
Row 2:
CH 3 and turn (counts as 1 DC, CH 1). SK the next stitch (see photo A). *In the next stitch, place 1 DC and CH 1. SK the following stitch.* Repeat from * to * 24 more times. Place 1 DC into the last stitch.
(27 DC stitches, 26 CH 1 spaces = 53 stitches)
Row 3: (the last 2 SC stitches of this row will be worked into the 3rd and 2nd CH of the turning CH 3 from row 2)
CH 1 and turn. Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC (working into the CH 1 stitch, not the spaces). Fasten off and weave in ends.
(53 SC stitches)
Ties (make 2):
CH 51
Row 1:
Into the 2nd CH from your hook and each CH across, place 1 SS. Do not fasten off. Into the CH space on one end of the accent, join the tie with a SS. Fasten off and weave in ends (Photo B). Repeat for the second tie, attaching to the other end of the accent.
(50 SS)
Assembly:
Wrap your decorative accent around the middle of the mason jar and fasten the ties together with a bow (this will be the front).
