Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Turning CH 1 does not count as a stitch throughout
– Edging is not required
– Finished coaster measures approximately 5 x 5 inches
– These coasters are slightly oversized to accommodate a larger mug. If you’d like to make it smaller, simply crochet a smaller chain length and crochet as many rows as needed to reach a height equal to the width
– If you’re a beginner and are looking for an extra challenge, you could try changing colours each row for a bright and colourful version. To change colours, simply fasten off at the end of the row and turn your work. Join the new colour with a SS, CH 1 into the first stitch and continue on with the HDC stitches across the row.
Materials Needed:
– Approximately 27 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn per coaster. I used WeCrochet Dishie in the “Begonia” colourway
– 4mm hook (I used the hook from my cute Dots set)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
Stitches:
CH – Chain
HDC – Half Double Crochet
Pattern:
CH 21 and begin row 1 in the 2nd CH from your hook.
Row 1:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 HDC. CH 1 and turn.
Rows 2-14:
Repeat row 1. After completing row 14, do not CH 1 and turn. Fasten off instead.
That’s it! Super easy and super quick. These oversized coasters are perfect for practicing tension and stitch/row counts and also work up nicely as a sweet and simple gift idea. I hope you enjoyed this pattern, happy crocheting!
