One skein projects are totally my thing. I love the challenge of designing a something practical and useful with a limited amount of yarn. Thankfully, many of those skeins and cakes have just enough yarn for wearables like scarves and neck warmers. Not only that, many yarns come in some beautiful varigated and gradient colourways so you don’t even have to switch up the colours! Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarn works beautifully for a project like this.
The Lovely Lemon Neck Warmer is a simple design with beginners in mind. Using the lemon peel stitch with a picot stitch edging, this project is perfect for working on while catching up on your favourite shows or movies! The simple repeat makes it easy to put down and pick up again while also being easy to travel with. If you aren’t familiar with the lemon peel or picot stitch, please check out the tutorials included within the pattern. My testers gave such kind words about this design and shared some lovely photos. You can find their versions at the end of the page, under the pattern!

– 2×2 gauge = 5 rows of lemon peel stitch. 7 stitches of lemon peel stitch in each row
– Turning CH does not count as a stitch
– Special stitch tutorials are included within the pattern
– Finished neck warmer, seamed with edges measures approximately 13”L x 10”W
Materials Needed:
– 1 cake of Lion Brand Ferris Wheel yarn (pattern uses approx. 241 yards). I used the “Cotton Candy” colourway. This yarn is a worsted weight 4.
– 5mm hook (I used my Furls Streamline Ebony hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
SC/PCT – Single Crochet with Picot Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
Special Stitch Tutorial:
Single Crochet Picot Stitch – Complete 1 SC and then CH 3. SS into the third CH from the hook. SC/PCT stitch complete.
Lemon Peel Stitch – The lemon peel stitch starts with an odd number of chains OR multiples of 2 plus 1. It is made by alternating SC and DC stitches, always ending on a DC.
Detailed Tutorial: click here
Pattern:
Begin by chaining 31. Start row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Row 1-73:
Into the first stitch, *place 1 SC. Into the next stitch, place 1 DC*. Repeat from * to * across the row, ending with a DC. CH 1 and turn.
(15 SC stitches, 15 DC stitches = 30 stitches)
Row 74:
Into the first stitch, *place 1 SC. Into the next stitch, place 1 DC*. Repeat from * to * across the row, ending with a DC. Fasten off and leave a long tail for seaming the edges together.
(15 SC stitches, 15 DC stitches = 30 stitches)
(At this point, your neck warmer should measure approximately 25 ½ inches long and 9 inches wide)
Seaming The Edges:
Bring your two short ends together for joining. Please use your preferred method of seaming (I like using the invisible seam). Join edges and fasten off.
Edging:
Begin the edging at your seam. Join yarn with a SS and CH 1. Into the same stitch, place 1 SC. Into the second stitch, place 1 SC/PCT Continue this repetition of SC, SC/PCT, evenly placed all the way around. The final stitch of the round should be a SC/PCT. SS into the top of the beginning SC and fasten off. Repeat for the second edge. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
The Lovely Lemon Neck Warmer is complete! I hope you enjoyed crocheting this design and working with the lemon peel stitch. My testers sure did! Aren’t their versions lovely?
