This mini crochet drawstring pouch is super cute and a fun beginner project! It uses the basic stitches and has so many uses. Made with acrylic or cotton worsted weight yarn, it’s a small project that would be ideal for stash busting or if you’re looking for some ideas to fill up a basket on your market table.
Originally published in 2019, this mini drawstring pouch has received a refreshing update in April 2023! This pattern was first called the “Simply Striped Drawstring Pouch”. It has been updated to be more beginner friendly using only one colour throughout the bag. If you prefer the striped version, simply change yarn colours each round. The stitch counts and instructions remain the same, the only real difference is the layout of the pattern has been updated to reflect my current designs.

– There are no special stitches required for this pattern
– Due to the drawstring, please keep this project away from small children
Materials Needed:
– Worsted weight cotton or acrylic yarn. I used WeCrochet Comfy in “Seafoam” (colour A, approx. 22 yards) and “Planetarium” (colour B, approx. 3 yards)
– 4mm hook (drawstring) (For both hook sizes mentioned, I used my Dots hooks from WeCrochet. Read my reivew here)
– 5mm hook (bag)
– Yarn needle (love this set!)
– Scissors (this are my favourite)
– Measuring tape (here’s a handy retractable one!)
Stitches:
SS –Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Special Stitch Tutorial:
There are no special stitches required for this pattern

Pattern:
Using your 5mm hook and yarn colour A, begin with a magic circle OR CH 3 and SS into the first CH to form a loop.
Round 1:
CH 2 and place 8 DC into your circle. SS into the beginning DC.
(8 DC stitches)
Round 2:
CH 2 and place 2 DC into each stitch around. SS into beginning DC.
(16 DC stitches)
Round 3:
CH 2. Place 2 DC into the first stitch followed by 1 DC in the next stitch. Repeat this sequence of 2 DC, 1 DC all the way around. SS into the beginning DC.
(24 DC stitches)

Rounds 4-15:
CH. 1 and make 1 SC into each stitch around. SS into beginning SC.
(24 SC stitches)
Round 16:
CH 1 and make 1 SC into each stitch around. SS into beginning sc, fasten off and weave in ends.
(24 SC stitches)
Drawstring:
The ends of your drawstring will be knotted for security so it will be helpful to leave a longer tail on each end.
Using your 4mm hook and yarn colour B, CH 80. Fasten off and knot each of your chain up against the first and last stitches. Trim any excess yarn.
Assembly:
Working in row 14, weave the drawstring in and out between each SC stitch, all the way around. When you get back to the beginning. Even out the drawstring so both ends are equal. You should now be able to gently pull both ends of the drawstring to close the pouch and tie in a knot.
