Crochet this adorable Valentine themed ornament with a few yards of worsted weight yarn in your favourite colours. Perfect to hang as decoration or as a cute tag on a gift, this project is a wonderful stash buster idea.
You might recognize the little heart which I recently shared the pattern for here on my website. When I was playing around with some ideas, I thought it would look really sweet added onto a simple ornament.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Finished ornament measures approximately 2 1/2 inches
– If you’d like to add a bit of stuffing to fluff out the finished project, simply add a little bit of your preferred fibre-fill before completing the edging
Materials Needed:
– Worsted weight yarn in three colours which will be referred to as colour A (approx. 3 yards), colour B (approx. 6 yards) and colour C (approx. 3 yards) I used WeCrochet Heatherly (check out Heatherly yarn here)
– 4.5mm hook (I used the hook from my cute Dots set)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
TR – Triple/Treble Crochet

Heart:
With yarn colour A, begin with a magic circle
CH 2 and into your circle make 1 DC, 1 TR, 4 DC, 1 TR, CH 1 (first side of heart complete)
Continue working into the magic circle and make 1 TR, 4 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC. CH 2 and SS into the magic circle. Fasten off, tighten the magic circle to close the opening in the centre and weave in all ends. If you’d like, you can give a pinch at the bottom of the heart to make it more defined and pointy.
Circles (make 2):
With yarn colour B, begin with a magic circle and CH 2 (does not count as a stitch).
Round 1:
Into the circle, place 10 DC. SS into the top of the beginning DC.
Round 2:
CH 2 (does not count as a stitch).Into the first stitch and each stitch around, place 2 DC. SS into the top of the beginning DC . Fasten off, tighten the centre and weave in ends.
Assembly and Edging:
Using yarn colour A, attach the heart to the centre on the right side (front of DC stitches) of one of the circles using a simple running stitch or other sewing method of your choosing. You don’t need to worry about neatness at the back because it will be hidden inside.
Place the two circles together with the right sides (front of the DC stitches) facing out. You will be working the edging through the stitches of both circles to close them together.
This style of edging will create a ruffled/zig zag appearance that is especially cute for a Valentine project.
Join yarn colour C with a SS, CH 1 into the stitches (both front and back circles) at the top, above the heart (see photo A). Into the next stitch and each stitch around (through both circles), make 1 SS, CH 1. SS into the top of the beginning SS but do not fasten off.

Hanging Chain:
CH 18 and SS into the next stitch of your edging to form a loop for hanging your ornament (photo B). Fasten off and weave in ends.

You can use this bauble as a Valentine ornament or as a cute tag on a gift for someone special. I hope you enjoyed this project. To find more ideas and inspiration, check out my other free crochet patterns here. Happy crocheting!
