Crochet Table Runner – Happy Gatherings Pattern

151Shares

Quite often, memories are made while sitting around a table. Sipping a tea or coffee, enjoying a meal together or simply having some conversations with family and friends. The Happy Gatherings Table Runner was inspired by those get-togethers, sharing in joyful times during the holidays or a casual visit with loved ones.

This crochet pattern uses worsted weight cotton yarn and is a simple row repeat allowing you to adjust the length to suit your table.

This pattern uses Dishie cotton yarn from WeCrochet. It’s incredibly soft and comes in some amazing shades! You can read my review here: Dishie Yarn Review. Haven’t ordered from WeCrochet before? I have a review for that too: My Experience Ordering From WeCrochet.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms.
– Gauge is 4 x 4 inches using DC. 8 rows with 14 stitches in each.
– Turning chains 1 and 2 do not count as a stitch.
– A trick for neater edges is to replace the turning CH 2 with a turning CH 1. You might also try eliminating the turning CH altogether. This is simply preference and not at all required for the pattern.
– Project measures approximately 11 x 39 ½ inches but can easily be adjusted to accommodate a shorter or longer length. Please note this will change the yardage required.
– Edging is optional.
– A special stitch tutorial is included within the pattern.

To Change The Length of Your Table Runner:
This pattern contains a simple row repeat. To make your table runner longer than what is mentioned in the pattern notes, simply continue the repeat beyond row 74 to your desired length and then complete the final SC row.

Materials Needed:
– Approximately 340 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn. I used WeCrochet Dishie (cone) in the “Silver” colourway
– 4mm hook (I used my Furls Streamline Resin in “Creme” hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors

Stitches:
CH – Chain
SK – Skip stitch
SS – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorial:
Crossed Double Crochet Stitch – For this pattern, skip two stitches and make one DC in the next stitch. Continue by placing 1 DC within the second skipped stitch. This will create an “X” effect/criss-cross appearance with the first DC in the back and the second DC in the front. A photo example can be found below:

Pattern:
CH 39 and begin row one in the second CH from your hook.

Row 1:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC. CH 2 and turn.
(38 SC stitches)

Rows 2-74:
Into each of the first 14 stitches, place 1 DC. *CH 1, SK two stitches and place 1 DC into the next stitch. Place 1 DC into the 2nd skipped stitch.* Repeat from * to * two more times. CH 1, SK 1 stitch. Place 1 DC into each of the next 14 stitches. CH 1 and turn.
(28 DC stitches, 3 Crossed DC segments, 4 CH 1 stitches = 38 stitches)

Row 75: (Crochet into the CH 1 stitch, not the CH 1 space from the previous row)
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC. Fasten off and weave in ends.
(38 SC stitches)

Edging:
Edging is not required however if you would like to add one, join yarn into any stitch and evenly place 1 SC into each stitch around all edges. Into each corner space, make 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC to create a curve around to the next edge. SS into the top of the beginning SC and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Don’t forget to take a look at the lovely table runners my testers made. They did such a beautiful job and I am always so thankful for their help.

Great job! Your Happy Gatherings Table Runner is complete! Make this project in any colour to compliment the season or celebration.
