Today’s pattern checks off a whole bunch of features that will definitely spark your creative side. It’s a great stash buster project because you can use whatever worsted weight yarn you have on hand…and it uses very little! It can also be customized and personalized to any décor or occasion and it works up super fast. I’ve had a lot of fun with this pattern and I hope you do too! Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– CH 2 at the beginning of each round counts as one DC stitch
– This project uses very little yarn and is a great stash buster
– You can create this garland to suit the event or holiday that you are celebrating! It’s so easy to customize in the colours of your choosing
– Due to the long chain and small pieces, please keep this garland out of reach for small children
Materials Needed:
– Worsted weight yarn in any colours of your choosing. Each circle requires such a small amount that my scale couldn’t pick up the weight!
– 5mm hook (Check out the beautiful Radiant hooks from WeCrochet)
– Yarn needle (Bent tip needles are so handy)
– Scissors (these scissors are my favourite!)
Stitches:
SS – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Circle Pattern (make as many as you require for your garland):
With your first yarn colour, begin with a magic circle OR CH 3 and SS into the second CH from your hook to form a loop.
Round 1:
CH 2 (represents 1 DC). Into your circle, place 9 DC stitches. SS into the top of your beginning CH 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.
(10 DC stitches)
Round 2:
Join your next yarn colour into any space between DC stitches with a SS and CH 2 (represents 1 SC, CH 1). Working between each DC stitch from round 1, make 1 SC, CH 1. SS into the first chain of your beginning CH 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.
(10 SC, 10 CH 1 = 20 stitches)
Garland Chain:
It is recommended to leave a longer tail on both ends to assist with hanging your garland. With the yarn colour of your choosing, make a long chain to the desired length of your garland so that it will evenly fit all the circles you made and then fasten off. If you want to make your garland chain a little more sturdy, you can SS back down your CH until you reach the beginning before fastening off.
Assembling:
Using the method of your choosing, evenly attach your circles to your garland chain. I chose to cut 7 inches of yarn (one for each circle) in the same colour as the garland chain. I and used my yarn needle to sew and attach behind each circle, knotting and trimming.
This completes your garland! Are you ready to make some more? Customize your colours to celebrate any occasion or simply to add some fun and whimsy to your home or office space.
I’ve made a bright and colourful version for my craft space as well as a festive garland in traditional Christmas colours for the tree which you can see below:
