Gift giving is always fun. The excitement and joy of watching others open a present that we hand-picked or handmade especially for them is lovely to see. Next time you have an occasion that requires a gift, consider adding a special crochet gift tag, personalized for someone special. This free crochet pattern is only thee simple rounds and works up in a speedy 15 minutes.

If you are returning to this pattern, you might notice something different! I have updated the photos and although the pattern remains the same, I have formatted it to be in-line with my current pattern layouts. Check out the refreshed pattern below…

You may sell items completed from this pattern but please provide credit back to Sweet Bee Crochet and if possible, link back to the pattern location. Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– The finished gift tag measures approximately 2 ½ inches in diameter
– Beginning CH does not count as a stitch for rounds 1-3
– This pattern leaves room for creativity. Included is the pattern for the tag itself and the flower accent. It does not include tutorials on how to embroider or sew accents and other decorative details

Materials Needed:
– Worsted weight cotton yarn in two colours. Approximately 4 yards (colour A) and 4 yards (colour B). I used WeCrochet Dishie
– 4mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring tape

Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Pattern:
With yarn colour A, begin with a magic circle or CH 3 and SS into the first CH to make a loop.

Round 1:
CH 2 and place 10 DC into your centre loop. SS into the top of the beginning DC.

(10 DC stitches)

Round 2:
CH 2 and place 2 DC into each stitch around. SS into the top of the beginning DC and fasten off.

(20 DC stitches)

Round 3:
Join colour B into the top of any stitch with a SS and CH 1. Place 2 SC into each stitch around. SS into the top of the beginning SC and CH 30. SS into the same SC that the CH 30 began (photo C). Fasten off and weave in all ends.

(20 DC stitches, 30 CH stitches)

Tiny Flower Accent:
Begin by making a magic circle or CH 3 and SS into the first chain to form a loop.

Round 1: (working all stitches into your circle)
CH 1 (does not count as a stitch) and place *1 SC, CH 4*. Repeat from * to * four more times. SS into the beginning SC and fasten off. Tighten your centre loop and secure before trimming leaving long ends for attaching to your tag.

Accent Details:
This is where you can really get creative and personal with your gift tag. Here are some ideas for personalization:

  • If you are familiar with simple embroidery and sewing techniques, stitch in the first letter of the recipient’s name into the centre of the tag using the method you prefer
  • Stitch a small applique into the centre that represents the occasion or theme
  • Cut out the first letter of the recipent’s name using felt. Attach it to the tag using fabric glue or stitch it in using a needle and thread

To attach your tag to a gift bag:
Wrap you chain around the handle and pull the tag through.

Great job! Your gift tag is complete. For more fun and creative designs, be sure to check out the Free Pattern section of my blog. Ad free, printer friendly versions can be found in my Etsy and Ravelry shops. Happy Crocheting!
