For this pattern, I chose to work with Lion Brand Truboo yarn. This was a new line for me and I was so glad I took a chance when I ordered it. Truboo yarn is incredibly soft and the drape is so gentle and beautiful. This yarn is a weight 3 (DK) and 100% rayon from bamboo. This scarf pattern is an excellent way to practice the iris stitch while creating a practical project. You will be using the iris stitch throughout but I have set up the measurements for length and width. Of course, those can be adjusted to your preference but please see the notes below regarding yardage. Let’s begin:

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Gauge is not important with this pattern. Lion Brand Truboo yarn is a fairly stretchy yarn so the finished size may differ based on tension. Upon completion without tassels, the scarf measures approximately 55 inches long and 5 inches wide. The length can be extended if preferred by repeating row 2 but please keep in mind this will add to your required yardage
– Yardage amount mentioned under the materials includes tassels
– Turning CH 3 will be worked into throughout the pattern. You will be stitching into the CH 3 space, not the CH stitches at the end of the rows
– The iris stitch is used throughout the pattern. This stitch contains “2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC” all in one stitch

– Tassels can be added but aren’t necessary

Materials Needed:
–  Approximately 335 yards of DK yarn. I used Lion Brand Truboo yarn in the “Silver” colourway. Click here to view this yarn on the Lion Brand website
– 4mm hook. I used my Furls Streamline “Cream” hook. Click here to view this hook on the Furls website
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring tape

Stitches:
CH – Chain
DC – Double Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorial:
Iris Stitch – The iris stitch is made up of “2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC” all in one stitch. It is worked into each CH 1 space of the iris stitch of the previous row. Detailed Tutorial: Click here

Pattern:
To begin, CH 27

Row 1:
Into the fifth CH from your hook, place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC (all in the same stitch). Skip the next 3 CH stitches. *In the next stitch place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. Skip the next 3 CH stitches*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC into the next stitch. You should have two unworked CH stitches remaining. Skip 1 CH stitch and place 1 DC into the last CH stitch. CH 3 and turn.

(6 iris stitches, 1 DC [end], 1 CH 3 [end])

Row 2:
Skip the first 3 DC. Into the CH 1 space of the first iris cluster, place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. Skip the next 4 DC. *Into the CH 1 space of the next iris cluster, place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. Skip the next 4 DC*. Repeat from * to * 3 more times. Place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC into the CH 1 space of the last iris cluster. Skip the next 2 DC and place 1 DC into the CH 3 space. CH 3 and turn.

(6 iris stitches, 1 DC [end] 1 CH 3 [end])

Rows 3-103:
Repeat row 2. After completing row 103, fasten off and weave in ends.

Adding Tassels To Your Iris Bloom Scarf:
Cut 56 pieces of your yarn, each 8 inches in length. Each end will have 7 tassels, each containing 4 pieces of yarn. You might find using a larger hook helpful in pulling your ends through the tassel loops. After your tassels are finished, you can trim as needed.
