Crochet a cute scrunchie using the suzette stitch. This scrunchie works well on its own for pony tails or as an accent around a bun hairstyle style for a pop of colour. Use your favourite worsted weight yarn in cotton or acrylic. Find the free crochet pattern below…
This pattern is available for free here on my blog. An ad-free, neatly formatted, printer friendly version is also available in my Etsy shop.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– The finished scrunchie measures approximately 5 inches in diameter
– Beginning CH 1 does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern
– To change the size of your scrunchie to accommodate larger or smaller elastics, chain any even number of stitches and repeat row 2 as desired
– This scrunchie works well on its own for pony tails or as an accent around a bun hairstyle style for a pop of colour
– Extra photos can be found at the end of the pattern for optional printing

Pattern:
CH 66 and begin row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Row 1:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 SC. CH 1 and turn.
(65 SC stitches)
Row 2:
Into the first stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC. SK the next stitch. *Place 1 SC and 1 DC, SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 30 more times. Place 1 SC into the last stitch. CH 1 and turn.
(33 SC stitches, 32 DC stitches = 65 stitches)
Rows 3-12:
Repeat row 2.
Assembly:
Your rectangle should measure approximately 15 x 3 inches. If it’s a little more or a little less, that’s okay! Fold the piece together so the longer edge is open at the top (photo A).

Place the elastic in the fold and begin working 1 SC into the front and back folds to join them together, making sure you are working over the elastic (photo B).

As you join the front and back folds, working your way to end of the rows, you will need to continually shift the elastic around. As you SC, the project will begin to create some natural ruffles and waves for a classic scrunchie look (photo C).

Once you reach the end, fasten off and cut a long tail. Use your yarn needle to join the open ends together using the sewing method of your choosing. Fasten off and weave in all ends (photo D). Shift the SC seam around the elastic to hide.
