Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Gauge is not important for this pattern. However, my finished square using measures 6×6 inches upon completion. Size may vary depending on yarn used and tension
– Beginning chain in each round will count as a stitch.
– This pattern is written using colour changes with new rounds. For simplicity, I am using 3 only colours which will be referred to as “colour A”, “colour B” and “colour C”. If you would like to add more (or less) colours, please feel free and adjust accordingly
– “Fan stitch” will refer to the grouping of 5 DC stitches in rounds 2 and 4
– “Cluster” refers to the grouping of 3 DC stitches made in round 1
– Sometimes stitches from the previous round can get hidden under the corner stitches. It is important to count your stitches to ensure the edges have the correct number required
– Your square might benefit from a quick blocking at the end to even out edges
– Photos of each completed round can be found within the pattern

Materials Needed:
–  Approximately 37-38 yards of worsted weight yarn (I used WeCrochet Dishie cotton). Note, that your yardage will vary depending on brand and yarn used
– 5mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Scissors

Stitches:
BEG/CH – Beginning Chain
SK – Skip stitch
SS – Slip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Pattern:
(Yarn Colour A)
Begin with a magic circle. Alternately, you may CH 3 and SS into the first CH to form a loop. Continue with this yarn colour for round 1.

Round 1:
CH 3 (represents 1 DC). Into your loop, place 2 more DC and CH 2. *3 DC, CH 2* Repeat from * to * 2 more times. SS into the top of the BEG/CH 3. Fasten off.

(12 DC stitches, 4 CH 2 corner spaces)

Round 2:
(Yarn Colour B)
Attach yarn into any CH 2 corner space with a SS. CH 3 (represents 1 SC, CH 2). Into the same space, place 1 SC. SK the next stitch (first DC of the next cluster). Place 5 DC in the next stitch (second DC of the cluster). SK the next stitch (last DC of the cluster). *Into the next CH 2 corner space, place 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC.
SK the next stitch. Place 5 DC in the next stitch. SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 2 more times. SS into first stitch of the BEG/CH 3. Fasten off.

(4 fan stitches, 8 SC stitches, 4 CH 2 spaces)

Round 3:
(Yarn Colour C)
Attach yarn into any CH 2 space with a SS. CH 3 (represents 1 DC). Into the same space, place 1 DC, CH 1, 2 DC. *SK the next three stitches. Into the next stitch (the 3rd DC in the fan cluster from round 2), place 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC. SK the next three stitches. Into the next CH 1 space, place 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC.* Repeat from * to * two more times. SK the next three stitches. Into the next stitch, place 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC. SK the next three stitches. SS into the top of the BEG/CH 3. Fasten off.

(40 DC stitches, 4 CH 2 spaces, 4 CH 1 spaces)

Round 4:
(Yarn Colour A)
Attach yarn into any CH 2 space with a SS. CH 4 (represents 1 SC, CH 3). Into that same space, place 1 SC *Into each of the next three spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. SK the next two stitches. Place 5 DC into the next CH 1 space. SK the next two stitches. Into each of the next three spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. Into the next CH 2 space, place 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC.* Repeat from * to * two more times. Into each of the next three spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. SK the next two stitches. Place 5 DC into the next CH 1 space. SK the next two stitches. Into each of the next three spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. SS into the first CH of your BEG/CH 4. Fasten off.

(4 fan stitches, 32 SC stitches, 4 CH 3 corner spaces)

Round 5:
(Yarn Colour B)
Attach yarn into any CH 3 corner space with a SS. CH 3 (represents 1 DC). Into that same space, place 1 DC, CH 2, 2 DC. Place 1 DC into each of the next three stitches. Place 1 HDC into each of the next two stitches. Into each of the next three stitches, place 1 SC. Place 1 HDC into each of the next two stitches. Place 1 DC into each of the next three stitches. *Into the next CH 3 corner space, place 2 DC, CH 2, 2 DC. Place 1 DC into each of the next three stitches. Place 1 HDC into each of the next two stitches. Into each of the next three stitches, place 1 SC. Place 1 HDC into each of the next two stitches. Place 1 DC into each of the next three stitches.* Repeat from * to * two more times. SS into the top of the BEG/CH 3. Fasten off.

(17 stitches on each edge. 4 CH 3 corner spaces)

Round 6:
(Yarn Colour C)
Attach yarn into any CH 2 corner space with a SS. CH 4 (represents 1 HDC, CH 3). Into the same corner space, place 1 HDC. *Into each of the next 6 spaces between stitches, place 1 HDC. Into each of the next 4 spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. Into each of the next 6 spaces between stitches, place 1 HDC. Into the next CH 3 corner space, place 1 HDC, CH 3, 1 HDC.* Repeat from * to * two more times. Into each of the next 6 spaces between stitches, place 1 HDC. Into each of the next 4 spaces between stitches, place 1 SC. Into each of the next 6 spaces between stitches, place 1 HDC. SS into the first CH of the BEG/CH 4. Fasten off.

(18 stitches on each edge. 4 CH 3 corner spaces)

Round 7:
(Yarn Colour A)
Attach yarn into any CH 3 corner space with a SS. CH 4 (represents 1 SC, CH 3). Into the same corner space, place 1 SC. *Working into the back loops, place 1 SC into each of the next 18 stitches. Into the next CH 3 corner space, place 1 SC, CH 3, 1 SC.* Repeat from * to * two more times. Place 1 SC into the back loop of each of the next 18 stitches. SS into the first CH of the BEG/CH 4. Fasten off.

(20 stitches on each edge. 4 CH 3 corner spaces)
