Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– Make as many watermelons as you need to achieve the desired length of bunting.
– Beginning ch 1 or ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
– This bunting pattern makes a cute décor piece for your home or any party. However, please keep all long strings of yarn and bunting chains out of the reach of small children.

Materials Needed:
– Worsted weight yarn in your favourite shades for watermelon. Pinkish-red, green, black (white is optional. See modification at end of pattern)
– Crochet hook appropriate for your yarn choice (I used a 4mm hook)
– Yarn needle
– Scissors

Stitches:
ss – slip stitch
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet

Pattern:
(For the small circular watermelons)
With your pinkish-red yarn: Begin with a magic circle OR ch 3 and ss into beginning ch.

Round 1:
Ch 2. Create 10 dc into your circle. SS into the top of your first dc. (10)

Round 2:
Ch 2. Create 2 dc into each stitch around. SS into the top of your first dc (20). Fasten off.

Round 3:
With your green yarn, begin in the top of any dc stitch and ch 1. Create 2 sc into each stitch around and ss into the top of your first sc (40). Fasten off and weave in ends.

With your black yarn, weave in and out of rounds 1 and 2 to create the appearance of seeds. Fasten off.

(For the semi circle watermelon)
With your pinkish-red yarn: Begin with a magic circle OR ch 3 and ss into beginning ch.

Round 1:
Ch 2. Create 10 dc into your circle. SS into the top of your first dc. (10)

Round 2:
Ch 2. Create 2 dc into each stitch around. SS into the top of your first dc (20).

Round 3:
Ch 2. Create 2 dc into each stitch around. SS into the top of your first dc (40). Fasten off.

With your black yarn, weave in and out of rounds 1-3 to create the appearance of seeds. Fasten off.

Fold your circle in half so that the right side is facing you and the edges are lined up neatly.

Edging:
With your green yarn, attach at the bottom right of your semi circle. Being careful to stitch into both the front and back edges of your folded circle, place 2 sc into each stitch along the curved side until you reach the other end (approx. 36 stitches). Fasten off and weave in your ends.

To create your bunting string:
With the yarn colour of your choice, create the desired length by making one long ch. Make sure to leave a bit of yarn tail on each end for hanging purposes. Fasten off

With your yarn needle and yarn colour matching the bunting chain, carefully stitch the watermelons to your chain. Weave in any extra bits of yarn. Hang up for some fun and bright summer décor!

Modification Options:
If you’d like to include a round of white between the red centre and green edging: Simply place 1 sc into each stitch around and continue on with the next steps to create the green edges.
