Morning Mini Mandala – Free Pattern

I’m excited to share my first crochet mandala pattern with you! I was inspired to write this particular design when I was sitting down with my morning coffee. I had a few quiet moments and really wanted to spend a bit of time crocheting before the routine of my busy day started. Mandalas are such lovely and relaxing projects that it really seemed like the perfect morning project. It takes about 30 minutes to make so you can enjoy a hot coffee or tea while crocheting a beautiful and simple piece. Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– The finished mandala measures approximately 4 ½  in diameter
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Beginning CH counts as a stitch when indicated within the pattern
– This pattern is made by working into chain spaces or between stitches
– While not required, you might find a quick blocking of your finished piece to be beneficial

Materials Needed:
–  Worsted weight cotton yarn in 5 colours. I used WeCrochet Dishie in the following colourways: “Blush” (colour A) 4 yards, “Mint” (colour B) 1 ½  yards, “Linen” (colour C) 3 ½  yards, “Dewdrop” (colour D) 2 ½  yards, and “Lilac Mist” (colour E) 4 ½  yards
– 4mm hook (Check out these hooks: WeCrochet Dots, WeCrochet Radiant)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Measuring tape

Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet


Pattern:
With yarn colour A, begin with a magic circle OR CH 3 and SS into the beginning CH to form  loop.

Round 1:
CH 3 (represents 1 DC, CH 1). Into your circle, *place 1 DC, CH 1.* Repeat from * to * 6 more times. SS into the second CH of the beginning CH 3. Fasten off. Tighten the centre loop to close.

(8 DC stitches, 8 CH 1 spaces)

Round 2:
(For this round, work only in the CH 1 spaces from round 1)

With yarn colour B, join in any CH 1 space with a SS, CH 3 (represents 1 SC, CH 2). *In the next CH 1 space, make 1 SC, CH 2.* Repeat from * to * 6 more times. SS into the 1st CH of the beginning CH 3. Fasten off.

(8 SC stitches, 8 CH 2 spaces)

Round 3:
(For this round, work only in the CH 2 spaces from round 2)

With yarn colour C, join in any CH 2 space with a SS and CH 2 (represents 1 DC). Into the same CH space, make 2 DC, CH 1. *In the next CH 2 space, make 3 DC, CH 1.* Repeat from * to * 6 more times. SS into the 2nd CH of the beginning CH 2. Fasten off.

(24 DC stitches, 8 CH 1 stitches spaces)

Round 4:
(For this round, work between the DC stitches and into each CH 1 space)

With yarn colour D, join in any CH 1 space with a SS and CH 2 (represents 1 SC, CH 1). Into each space between stitches and each CH 2 space, make 1 SC, CH 1. SS into the 1st CH of the beginning CH 2. Fasten off.

(24 SC stitches, 24 CH 1 spaces)

Round 5:
(For this round, work only in the CH 1 spaces from round 4)

With yarn colour E, join in any CH 1 space with a SS and CH 5 (represent 1 SC, CH 4). *In the next CH 1 space, make 1 SC, CH 4.* Repeat from * to * 22 more times. SS into the 1st CH of the beginning CH 5. Fasten off.

(24 SC, 24 CH 4 spaces)

Round 6:
(For this round, work only in the CH 4 spaces from round 5)

With yarn colour A, join in any CH 4 space with a SS and CH 4 (represents 1 SC, CH 3). *In the next CH 1 space, make 1 SC, CH 3.* Repeat from * to * 22 more times. SS into the 1st CH of your beginning CH 3. Fasten off.

(24 SC, 24 CH 3 spaces)

Great job! Your Morning Mini Mandala is complete! These cute projects could be used as coasters, placed under plant pots to protect surfaces, attached to bunting or mounted in an embroidery hoop for a pretty décor piece.
