Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not important for this pattern
– Finished dishcloth measures 7 1/4 × 7 1/4 inches (without edging)
– Turning CH 2 is used as a stitch throughout
– The finished dishcloth has nice and tidy edges and doesn’t necessarily require a border. If you would like to add one, instructions are included within the pattern
– This pattern works best with a solid shade of yarn to show off the stitchwork and texture
– If you would like to make a smaller or larger dishcloth, CH any number of even stitches. Please note that adjusting the size will change the yardage amount required

Materials Needed:
–  Approximately 67 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn. I used WeCrochet Dishie in the “Creme Brulee” and “Blue” colourways
– 4mm hook (I used the hook from my cute Dots set)
– Yarn needle (bent tip needles are always helpful)
– Scissors (my favourite!)
– Measuring tape (this one is handy)

Stitches:
SK – Skip Stitch
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet

Special Stitch Tutorial:
Even Moss Stitch: Row 1 is made by making 1 SC, CH 1, SK 1 stitch across the row (ending with 1 SC). For row 2 and beyond, repeat row 1 but the SC stitches are worked into the CH 1 space of the previous row.

CH 42

Row 1:
Into the 4th CH from your hook, place 1 SC. CH 1 and SK the next stitch. *Make 1 SC, CH 1 and SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 17 more times. Place 1 SC into the last stitch. CH 2 and turn.

(20 SC stitches, 19 CH 1 = 39 stitches)

Row 2:
Into the first CH 1 space, place 1 SC, CH 1 and SK the next stitch. *In the next CH 1 space, place 1 SC, CH 1 and SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 17 more times. Place 1 SC into the space between the last SC stitch and the turning CH. CH 2 and turn.

(20 SC stitches, 19 CH 1 = 39 stitches)

Rows 3-35:
Repeat row 2. After completing row 35, fasten off and weave in all ends.

Edging (optional):
(I find fastening off and re-joining the yarn in the middle of an edge provides a neater finish for the border)

Join yarn into the middle of any edge with a SS and CH 1. Evenly place 1 SC around all edges and make 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC into each corner space. SS into the beginning SC, fasten off and weave in all ends.

I hope you enjoyed this free dishcloth pattern. Happy crocheting!
