I’m all about practical and functional crochet accessories (bonus points if they’re cute!). I like things that are useful and won’t just end up sitting on a shelf. I also look for quality because I want it to last and not be something that I’ll need to replace down the line.
This pattern folio caught my eye while I was browsing the WeCrochet website. The colour was so pretty and it seemed like a handy accessory. I reached out to them and they generously provided one for me to review.

I was not asked to write this review. I reached out to WeCrochet requesting product support for review purposes. I’m sharing my thoughts and personal experience about working with this product.

Today I am talking about the adorable and practical Pattern Folio from WeCrochet. Like many other crocheters, I do like to take my project bag out and about with me. I typically like to print my patterns out so that I can easily flip through them or have the notes and details right in front of me. If I shove them into a bag, sometimes they can get a crumpled which I try to avoid but it almost always happens. That is part of the reason the Pattern Folio caught my attention.
To start, the colour is gorgeous. The folio has a beautiful, suede-like feel which gives it a really sleek and professional look. It’s solid, the seams are stitched securely and it looks to be a very well made product. On the front, there is a simple metal accent with the WeCrochet brand logo.
This lovely folder is useful. And I don’t say that just for the purpose of keeping your pattern in place. It also has a variety of pockets and spaces to store two crochet hooks, stitch markers and even a small pair of scissors. You could really just take this and your yarn in a project bag without needing a separate hook or notions pouch. Let’s dive in and take a closer look:

A few notes:
– There are two hook pockets, but they will not fit a thick hook. If you are familiar with the WeCrochet Dots hook set (seen in the first photo above photo), these pockets will fit those perfectly. Check out the Dots hook set here.
– The small inside pocket will fit a travel ruler or even a small pair of scissors (my steeking scissors fit well here).
– The inside zippered pocket is perfect for storing items like a measuring tape, a small stitch marker tin or other notions.
– The large pocket on the back of the outside is a great spot for storing small tools or stitch cards. It has a metal snap to keep the flap closed.

The inside of the folio is simple with 3 elastics to keep your pattern in place. They are stitched in very nicely and I don’t see them becoming stretched or loose anytime soon.

You might be wondering what it looks like when it’s packed full of items. Inside, I have a retractable measuring tape, a small notions tin, 2 hooks, scissors, and 1 piece of 8.5 x 11 inch paper. When closed, the magnets on the front flap do not connect due to the thickness. However, it really isn’t a big deal for me because everything is contained so nicely and well. It really won’t affect the function or use for me. The folio measured approximately 2 inches thick when closed with those items inside:

Let’s talk about measurements. On the WeCrochet website, it’s mentioned that the folio measures 7.5 x 11 inches when closed. It’s important to note that my folio measures 7.5 x 10 inches so I believe this to be a simple error on the website. When open, the folio measures approximately 21.5 x 10 inches. It is technically meant to hold mini pattern books. Now for me, I print out a lot of my patterns on a standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper. I knew that this folio was geared to those mini pattern books when I reached out to WeCrochet because I was fairly confident that I could still make it work with 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Here’s what I did:

Many printed patterns are formatted to a portrait layout. I used my project planner printable as an example above. If this were a pattern, and you had the folio in front of you like this, the text would be sideways. Not a problem for me, I typically the place the print out on my lap so I would simply remove it from the folio and then place it back in for travel and keeping things together. However, if the pattern is printed in a landscape layout, this format would work beautifully in the folio and you wouldn’t have to remove it.
I was really needing something like this to keep my papers organized in my project bag and it really does the trick for that purpose and I’m very happy with it. Now if you have a collection of the mini patten books, that’s even better because the folio size is intended for those and you’ll find the fit snug and perfect.
Is this something you might find useful? I think most crocheters who travel with patterns and notions would definitely see this as a helpful and beneficial accessory. I love it and have been able to make it work in a way that meets my own needs.
Where can you buy the the Pattern Folio?
– You can find this product on the WeCrochet website and also on their sister site, Knit Picks. At the time of this review, the folio is listed at $34.99 USD. View the Pattern Folio here.
– There is also a bundle version available which includes the folio as well as a selection of notions and tools. It’s a great value and would also make a really great gift for a fellow crocheter. Check out the bundle here.
Would I recommend this product?
I would! I think it’s made well (I always find WeCrochet products to be of great quality), it’s useful and practical, even with printed patterns. I especially love how I can keep a few important tools inside of it so everything is contained. This makes my portable crochet projects even easier to take out with me for regular travel and road trips.
