How to Make a Crochet Leaf in 3 Sizes

102Shares

Motifs and appliques can be such fun projects to crochet. Not only are they quick to make but they can often be used as accent pieces when stitched onto other projects. Today have a a cute crochet leaf pattern to share that I’ve written up in three different sizes. You can make them in pretty shades of green for spring and summer and riches tones of red, orange and yellow for autumn.

Sew them onto wreaths, crochet pumpkins, table runners, blankets, hats, scarves…you name it! Find the free crochet patterns to all three sizes below…

These patterns are available for free here on my blog. Ad-free, neatly formatted, printer friendly versions of all three patterns are also available in my Etsy and Ravelry shops. Click the buttons below to take you there!

You may sell items completed from this pattern but please provide credit back to Sweet Bee Crochet and if possible, link back to the pattern location. You may not sell this written pattern or use my photos without consent. You may not use my photos to sell your completed items.

This pattern uses worsted weight cotton yarn. For my versions, I used WeCrochet Dishie which is a wonderfully soft and beautiful yarn to crochet with. If this yarn is new to you, please check out my review here: Dishie Yarn Review

Each leaf pattern is divided into its own section for simplicity. Please read the notes below before beginning your leaf.

Notes:
– These pattern are written in US terms (find a stitch conversion chart here)
– Gauge is not terribly important for these projects
– The approximate measurements of each leaf are as follows (width measured at the widest section): large leaf = 6 inches tall and 3 inches wide. Medium leaf = 5 inches tall and 2 inches wide. Small leaf = 3 inches tall and 1 ½ wide
– Turning chains 1 and 2 do not count as a stitch throughout each leaf
– You might find it beneficial to block your leaf after completion
– The turning CH creates a bit of texture which resembles the uneven ridges that some leaves have around the edges

Materials Needed:
–  Approximate yardage for one leaf in each size made with worsted weight yarn is as follows: 12 yards (large), 5 yards (medium), 3 yards (small). I used WeCrochet Dishie cotton
– 4mm hook (I used the hook from my adorable Dots set)
Yarn needle
Scissors
Measuring tape

Stitches:
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
SC DEC – SC Decrease
DC DEC – Double Crochet Decrease

Special Stitch Tutorials:
Single Crochet Decrease (SC DEC) –
Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through all three loops on hook. SC DEC complete.

Double Crochet Decrease (DC DEC) – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops on your hook (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops on hook (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through remaining three loops. DC DEC complete.
