It’s August 15th and you know what that means….it’s Granny Square Day! Each year, on this date, crocheters join together to share their love of all things granny squares. Primarily taking place on Instagram, crocheters post their granny square photos, building community engagement and turning our Instagram feeds into colourful works of art. It’s so fun and such a nice way to connect with others in the crochet community.
Of course, I’m sharing my photos over on my Instagram (@sweet_bee_crochet) but I’m also posting a granny square pouch pattern here on my website! Find all the details below…

Seaming: (Photo A)
Place your squares together with the right sides facing out and seam down one side with yarn colour B., across the bottom and up the other side, leaving the top open. There are many ways to join your squares and you are welcome to use the method you are most comfortable with. Some popular options are: using a SS or SC, using a needle to make a whip stitch or invisible seam. Make sure as you seam, that you are working through both squares. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Top of Pouch:
Round 1: Attach yarn colour B into any stitch at the open top with a SS
CH 1 (represents 1 SC). Into each stitch around place 1 SC. SS into the top of the beginning CH 1.
(40 SC stitches)
Round 2:
CH 3 (represents 1 DC, CH 1). SK the next stitch. *Place 1 DC, CH 1 and SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 18 more times. SS into the 2nd CH of the beginning CH 3.
(20 DC stitches, 20 CH 1 stitches = 40 stitches)
Round 3:
CH 1 (represents 1 SC). Into each stitch and CH 1 space around, place 1 SC. SS into the top of the beginning CH 1. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
(40 SC stitches)
Adding Ribbon (Photo B)
Weave your ribbon in and out of the CH 1 spaces, around the top of the bag ending at the CH 1 space next to the one you started in. Both ends of the ribbon should be hanging out in the front. To tighten, gently pull both ribbons to gather and close the top of the pouch. Tie into a bow to secure.
