Super Bulky yarn makes such cozy projects and because it’s thick, it typically works up quickly and shows off some amazing texture. I’ve been trying to be mindful of my yarn stash, not adding to it and using up what’s already available to me. I found some skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky on my shelf, grabbed two and went to work to see what I could come up with. The result is a simple neck warmer pattern that would definitely keep you warm and toasty or would make a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member.

– Gauge is 2×2 inches = 3 rows containing 5 stitches of HDC
– After seaming, the finished neck warmer measures approx. 13 ½ x 10 inches
– Colours A and B are alternated. To begin with a new colour, SS into the first stitch and CH 1
– Beginning CH 1 does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern
Materials Needed:
– Approximately 82 yards of super bulky yarn “colour A” (I used Bernat Softee Chunky for both colours)
– Approximately 80 yards of super bulky yarn “colour B”
– 8mm hook
– Yarn needle
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
Stitches:
CH – Chain
SS – Slip Stitch
SK – Skip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Pattern:
With yarn colour A, CH 22 and begin row 1 in the second CH from your hook.
Rows 1-3:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across, place 1 HDC. CH 1 and turn for all rows except after row 3. Fasten off and turn your work instead.
(21 HDC stitches)
Row 4-6 (yarn colour B):
Into the first stitch, place 1 SC and 1 DC. SK the next stitch. *Place 1 SC and 1 DC, SK the next stitch.* Repeat from * to * 8 more times. Place 1 SC into the last stitch. CH 1 and turn except for after row 6. Instead, fasten off, turn your work and join yarn colour A into the first stitch to begin the next section.
(11 SC stitches, 10 DC stitches = 21 stitches)

Rows 7-48:
Repeat rows 1-6, 7 more times. After completing row 48, fasten off and weave in all ends.
Seaming the Edges:
There are many ways to seam your edges and most people have a method that they prefer. I like using the invisible seam method but other options include slip stitching, single crocheting or using a simple blanket stitch.
Bring the two ends together. Using yarn colour A or B, begin at the top and join the ends making sure to work through the stitches on each side. Fasten off once you’ve reached the bottom (photo A). Weave in all ends.
