Fall is my favourite season. I love the transition from summer to the cooler temperatures. The changing colours, the brisk breeze…..curling up with scary movies, a good book or some yarn for a cozy project. I’ve been trying to be more intentional with my yarn stash which means using up what I have available before buying more. I also have been wanting to make a cute fall themed garland for my house this seemed like the perfect match.

A few quick notes:
- This post is not a specific pattern but more of a guide on how to make a fall garland using a mix of three Sweet Bee Crochet designs: Dreamy Crochet Star Motif, Crochet Leaf (small size) and Tiny Cute Pumpkin. These patterns are not written within this post but links to each will be shared throughout the tutorial
- Specific yarns, tools and other important details can be found within each individual pattern
- Gauge is not important for this tutorial. The Dreamy Crochet Star Motif is originally made with worsted weight cotton yarn but I used a super bulky weight for the version in the garland
- You can easily adjust this garland to suit your style by adding more or less of the items mentioned above
- You can use any yarn you have on hand however worsted weight works best for the pumpkin and leaves while a super bulky can add a great texture to the start motif
- The yarn that the pieces are stitched into is a super bulky weight fibre. If you are not working with super bulky weight yarn, you can also crochet a long chain using worsted weight yarn and work a SS down each CH after reaching the desired length. You might also choose to crochet a double stranded chain if you’re working with worsted
- As always, please be mindful of where you hang your garland and keep it out of reach of small children
Garland Tutorial:
- Begin by deciding on where you would like to hang your garland. This will help determine the length and how many accents you would like to crochet. Keep in mind that the pieces are a little heavy and can cause your garland to slightly drape in the centre (especially if you’re mixing in some thicker yarn weights)
- Decide on what accents you would like to include in your garland. You can find the three patterns I used here: Dreamy Crochet Star Motif, Crochet Leaf (small size) and Tiny Cute Pumpkin. I crocheted 4 super bulky weight stars, 6 small leaves and 3 pumpkins
- Once you have your finished accents, cut a piece of super bulky weight yarn to fit the space you would like to hang it. You might choose to knot a loop on each end to hang or leave the ends to tie later
- Working on a flat surface, lay your garland strand and evenly space out your garland accents in the order you prefer
- I used worsted weight yarn in a similar colour to the super bulky weight garland strand to attach the pieces. I used a yarn needle to bring the worsted yarn through each accent piece and the super bulky yarn, tying a tight knot at the back and trimming the excess yarn. This part was a little tedious but it’s worth the time
- Hang your garland and enjoy your festive and seasonal home decor!
I hope you enjoyed this fun tutorial on how to make a simple fall themed garland. Happy crocheting!
