Yesterday’s cowl post gave me the push to finish up a quick and easy design I had been working on. Today I’m happy to share with you, the One Hour Double Crochet Cowl. This design would be perfect for beginners looking to make a simple project using only one stitch. If you’re a more experienced crocheter, this project could also be for you! It would be a great opportunity to do some quick stash busting.

This project is very beginner friendly as after the starting chain, it uses only double crochet throughout the remainder of the pattern. You can easily customize this patten to your liking by switching up the colour or even adding in stripes with multiple shades.

Notes:
– This pattern is written in US terms
– After the starting chain, double crochet is used throughout the remainder of the pattern
– Gauge is not important for this pattern. Work up the cowl with a fairly loose tension to achieve similar sizing however, this is not crucial. You might choose to adjust the sizing to your preference by reducing or increasing the length before stitching the ends together. Before seaming, the measurements are 24 1/2 inches long and 8 inches wide
– When crocheting with DC stitches, it is common to use a turning CH 2. For this pattern to help achieve straighter edges, I like to CH 1 and turn to create less of a gap

Materials Needed:
– Approx. 87-88 yards of super bulky acrylic yarn. I used Mighty Stitch Super Bulky from WeCrochet.
– 10 mm hook (My Furls Streamline Ebony was perfect for this project)
– Yarn needle big enough for chunky yarn
– Scissors
– Measuring tape

Stitches:
CH – Chain
DC – DC

Pattern:
CH 14

Row 1:
Beginning in the second CH from your hook, place 1 DC into the first stitch and each stitch across the row. CH 1 and turn.

(13 DC stitches)

Rows 2–23:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across the row, place 1 DC. CH 1 and turn.

(13 DC stitches)

Row 24:
Into the first stitch and each stitch across the row, place 1 DC. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming.

(13 DC stitches)

Stitching The Ends:
Bring your two ends together for joining. I like using the invisible seam method when stitching ends together. You can find a tutorial here; however, it is not required. Please use the method you are most comfortable with. Once complete, fasten off and weave in ends.
