Yarn Review – Caron x Pantone

Caron x Pantone yarn from Yarnspirations

I’m going to put this out there right away and say that Caron x Pantone yarn is hands down, one of my favourites to use. I tried it for the first time in 2018 and was immediately obsessed with it. The colourways are absolutely gorgeous. Here’s the thing: One braid has all the colours picked out for you. It really saves you the time hunting around and deciding on the perfect matching colours for your project (and buying all the skeins seperately). It’s already done for you!

Use the colours in the order they are arranged or mix them up to your liking. The shades in each braid are so vibrant and bold that even the lighter colours stand out and display beautifully. Have you ever settled into a regular routine of the same old colours and have been afraid to branch out with some new colour combinations? This is another great reason to check out the Pantone line. There are so many amazing colourways that it’s a great way to expand your yarn colour pallet. No matter the project you choose, I promise you that this yarn will display your stitches in a clear and defined way that will really show off your beautiful handmade creations.

The original Caron x Pantone line is listed as a 5 (bulky weight yarn) with a recommended hook size of 6mm. It is a mixed fiber yarn made up of 60% acrylic, 20% nylon and 20% merino wool. It is incredibly soft and luxurious. I haven’t had any issues with the yarn splitting, twisting or pulling making it really dreamy to use. Each braid has a net weight of approximately 100 grams with a total amount of 127 yards to work with. Don’t let that amount scare you because while it does seem like a small amount of yarn, there are tons of crochet (and knitting) patterns that work up beautifully using a few braids of this yarn…sometimes even just one braid! How’s that for handy and portable projects!

Once your project is completed, you will be happy to know that it this yarn is machine washable and dryable. I personally like to hand wash and dry smaller items that I make with this yarn but that’s just my personal preference.

Because this yarn is twisted into a braid, you will need to invest a little bit of time preparing it for use. I promise it doesn’t take long and if you take your time and find a winding method that works for you, you’ll have 5 little balls of yarn wound up and ready to go in no time. Keep an eye out in the next few weeks for a blog entry that will walk you through how I prepare my Caron x Pantone yarn for use. It’s easier than you think!
