I’m really excited to share this yarn review with you today. I have been wanting to try this brand for a long time and when I found it available on the website of my favourite online yarn retailer, I loaded up my cart. I’m sharing all the details and my personal thoughts on Scheepjes Colour Crafter Yarn. Let’s go!
All the Details:
Scheepjes is a brand from The Netherlands and if you head over to their website, you can read all about the incredible history of this company. The various product lines which they have created is endless and without a doubt, you’ll find the perfect yarn for whatever project you have in mind. I was looking for yarn to use in a mandala project and discovered the Colour Crafter line. I ordered 6 skeins from Yarn Canada in the following shades:
-Wilnis
-Leuven
-Kortrijk
-Knokke
-Mechelen
-Malmedy
It is a comfortably priced yarn and the amount of yarn in each skein really does go a long way. It’s a DK weight yarn (light 3) with a length of 300 metres, which is a really decent amount to work with. The Scheepjes website lists 93 shades (yes, 93!) in the Colour Crafter line which will surely spark some creative ideas and provide some project inspiration. The recommended hook size is 4mm which is average for yarn of this weight. To make things extra amazing, this yarn is machine washable, and can also be placed into the dryer. Life is busy and crazy and the convenience of having yarn that doesn’t require hand washing is a perk for a lot of people.
It’s soft with just the perfect amount of squish. The colours are incredibly vibrant, warm and it feels like the skeins burst with all things happy and joy. This yarn is smooth to work with, free of twists or knots and very pleasant and relaxing to use. It would be perfect for crocheting wearable items, creating home décor pieces or making motifs and appliques.
I live in Canada and purchased this yarn online from Yarn Canada which had a lovely selection to choose from. A quick search on scheepjes.com under “Shops” will display purchasing opportunities near you that offer Scheepjes yarn…which I definitely suggest you do because this yarn is amazing. If you haven’t tried it, add it to your list of yarn to try. You won’t regret it.
So…what did I use my Scheepjes Colour Crafter yarn for? I was browsing through previous issues of @crochetzine (a super inspiring and crochet themed Instagram magazine) and came across the “Something Happy Mandala” by Sharna Moore (@sweet_sharna). It’s a beautiful pattern and I was immediately looking up yarn to make my own version. This Colour Crafter yarn worked up so perfectly and really created such a complimenting aspect to the pattern itself.
I’m so glad to have found this yarn and it’s definitely a brand that I will purchase again. The only problem will be deciding which colours to add to my cart next time.
